8th Grade World History
Welcome eighth-graders,
My name is Jordan Hopkins and I will be your Social Studies teacher this year. I am very excited to be here in Morocco teaching at ASM. I am looking forward to getting to know each of you and working with you and your families. Below you will find some helpful information about your World History course and about some important class procedures. Please share this information with your parents so that they are also involved in supporting your work this year.
Course Description:
This year we will be learning about world history from the first humans to the European Renaissance. We will spend some time looking at the civilizations of the Far East and the Americas, but the significant portion of our learning will focus on Western Civilization. By looking at the rise and fall of empires, the development of religions, the formation of economies, and other significant historical events, we will gain a better understanding of how the political, cultural, economic, and social world we live in was created. Our goal will be to relate our historical learning to current events and issues in hopes of gaining a better understanding of the world around us. The major units of learning will include:
· Human Beginnings & the Agricultural Revolution
· Ancient River Valley Civilizations
· Cultures of Persia, India, & China
· Ancient Greece
· Ancient Rome
· Byzantine Empire and Russia
· Islamic Civilization
· Europe during the Middle Ages
· Mayan, Aztec, & Incan Civilizations
· Late Medieval Period
· The Renaissance
